It Flies Indeed...

I know tempus fugit and all that, but yesterday's birthdays delivered two shocks. One: Prunella Scales – a fine actress whose portrayal of Sybil Fawlty (wife of Basil) surely placed her among the  comedy immortals – is now 90 years old. And two: Kris Kristofersson yesterday turned 86, which hardly seems possible (though I knew he was a Rhodes scholar at Oxford in the 1950s). His great album The Austin Sessions is one that I play often, but here is a moment that shows a different side of Kristofersson – enjoy!

  1. A man who has packed a lot into those 86 years - a trio of wives and an octet of children against a backdrop of scholarship, military service (no bone spurs for him), flying helicopters - and that's the short list. He makes light of his voice, but on the masterful album you mention he sounds as good as the very best, and the self-penned songs reveal him as an artist of the front rank.

    1. Yes indeed, and I love the feel of that album as well as the sound – those fine musicians coming together and clearly loving every moment.

    1. Yes - innocent times, when the stars were real stars and took themselves a lot less seriously...
