Such Sad News...

The death, far too soon, of the wonderful and lovely Kate McGarrigle. There's a feeling tribute here, to which I'll only add this reminder of Kate and Anna together, and of one of their most beautiful songs...

  1. i only discovered the McGarrigles in August or so - i heard 'Heart Like a Wheel' on Radio 3's Late Junction and was smitten.

  2. One of that group of natural musicians, unlike today's production line offering's, she is a great loss.

The Transatlantic Sessions gig with the McGarrigles including Rufus Wainwright, Emmylou, Ally Mcbain, Jay Ungar, Mary Black and Karen Matheson singing Hard Times is one of the greatest musical experiences, at times almost unbearable to watch and listen to.

  3. You are usually the conduit for so much that is good Nige; this news, particularly if you remember our short exchange a few weeks ago, is a dreadful blow - to all lovers of music, of whatever hue. And yes Malty, hard to watch then, even harder now.
