One Painted Lady

The first day of June - and my first Painted Lady! It was a brilliant sunny morning as I made my way to the station, and there she was - a bright sleek specimen, basking in all her tawny-black-and-white glory on a clipped suburban lawn. Will it be another Painted Lady Summer like 2009? It seems not - if it was, they'd be everywhere by now. One Painted Lady doesn't make a summer - but it does make a difference.

  1. Lucky you Nige! No butterflies spotted round here lately! Although might go for a solo round of golf tonight, so will have as good lookout for some then - will definately be keeping an eye out for hawkmoths too!

  2. Yes, a sighting like that would have made my day. Lovely photograph too.

  3. Not mine (of course) - how anybody ever gets a decent shot of a butterfly is a mystery to me...

  4. They lie very still in the same place for a very long time, take thousands of shots, and then go home and download a stock photo from the internet.

  5. This won't work in reality, that is what I suppose.
