Eurovision - Worrying News

As a long-term fan of the Eurovision Song Contest, I find the news that the Phantom of the Opera is going to make a serious attempt to win it thoroughly depressing. To attempt to win Eurovision is to misunderstand it entirely. To take it in any way seriously - as Wogan recently showed worrying signs of doing - is similarly to miss the point. As it happens, I addressed this matter in my very first post on this blog...

  1. And this is why I'm lobbying to host the show. I'd even sign a contract, promising that I wouldn't take it seriously.

  3. As ALW isn't eastern European we don't have a cat in hells chance, why not let Michael Nyman write the next entry, he's been writing totally incomprehensible tosh for years, ideal candidate.

  4. But think how glorious it will be when, after months of hype, telephone voting and 'whittling down' of tearful contestants, the ultimate British victor performs on Eurovision night and still finishes in the inevitable rock-bottom position.

  5. Let's be thankful that it's the Phantom and not the Prince of Darkness
