Almost Hair-Raising
An interesting find from the jungles of Patagonia, which seems to suggest a major rethink of hydrocarbons is overdue. What I particularly like is the quote from the scientist, who noted that 'almost every hair' on his arms stood up (no doubt like quills upon the fretful porpentine). He must have been counting...

Ah Malty - how fondly I remember the combined whiff of the pig farm and the Vinyl factory in Carshalton, back when I were a nipper. Happy days...
ReplyDeleteNige, I can remember the Phillips television factory, not far from Hackbridge stn?, where was the vinyl factory?
ReplyDeleteAh yes Phillips - and Mullards as well. The Vinyl factory was amid the Victorian cottages of Mill Lane (The Sun on the corner, the Palmerston farther along). A kind of mini-Middlesbrough. Wouldn't be allowed now of course...
ReplyDeleteI grew up in Maidstone and my olfactory memories of the place are the combined pong from Fremlin's brewery and Sharp's toffee factory (Sharp's the Word for Toffee!). Not exactly up there with Proust's madeleine but it works for me.
