In 2000

Something happened on this day in 2000 - but what? According to the BBC, it was this. But according to Melanie Phillips, it was a case of this. If you read Phillips' piece, you might well wonder why the BBC baldly presents its account as historical fact, without any mention of any doubts ever having been raised. Legends are stronger than facts - and sadly, in this case, far deadlier.

  1. Thanks for drawing this to my attention, Nige. I remember the orginal BBC report and this subsequent revelation is depressing in so many ways. Bloody journalists (with, obviously, a number of honourable exceptions), bloody Palestinians and bloody Israelis. Sometimes it's good to rant.

  2. If they had used this lens on their camera they may have got a clearer picture. I wonder how many more of those stories there are that we don't know about.
