Too Darn Hot

It's Cole Porter's 130th birthday today – and the weather here is very nearly hot (by English standards). So, what could be more fitting than this Porter song, sung to perfection in every point  – and in a voice beyond compare – by Ella Fitzgerald...

  1. Oh yes, there are plenty I prefer too – it's just the most apt for today.

  2. I once had to find the lyrics (which appeared to have a few typos) to explain to an acquaintance where I got the expression "pitch the woo".

  3. George – you could also have cited Merle Haggard's fine song Okie from Muskogee –
'We don't make a party out of lovin',
We like holdin' hands and pitchin' woo.
We don't let our hair grow long and shaggy
Like the hippies down in san Francisco do...'
