Here (with a hat-tip to Struan Robertson) is something rather special – a unique musical encounter between the Byrds and the Earl Scruggs Band – with the background story provided by the man who managed to film it, despite the antics of one R. McGuinn. The music-making is just wonderful. Enjoy...

Nige: This is wonderful! Thank you so much for sharing it. Not only Roger McGuinn and Earl Scruggs together, but the too soon departed Clarence White as well.
ReplyDeleteIt also immediately brought back a nice memory. In my younger years (sometime between 1977 and 1979, I believe), I saw the Earl Scruggs Band perform in a club in Hollywood. I seem to recall that Albert Lee (who played in Emmylou Harris' band around the same time) was in the band that night. I remember (this stays with me as a highlight) that they performed Dylan's "Song to Woody." (A version of the song by Scruggs and Johnny Cash can be found on youtube.) Ah, youth!
Thank you again.
Thanks Stephen – and for the memory. Ah, youth indeed....
